SIGNALS ARE NOT A REQUEST

Again all the neighbors came around and said, “Isn’t that great!” Again, he said, “Maybe.” Story of the Chinese Farmer

Chase Pinckney is proud to present SIGNALS ARE NOT A REQUEST, an anthology of work past and present, to open on January 13th from 6-10pm at 4631 Melrose Avenue.

The paintings on view, ranging in scale, employ a rational materiality. Acrylics and oils form backdrops of varied hues that are then layered upon and given dimension by pastes, gels and various other organic substrates.

Grafted between the approach to materials are overt gestures towards symbolism, myth and domesticity. The body of work blends image and metaphor into a narrative deeply tied to place and time. Within each of them, a meditation on the things that constitute humanity as contemporary.
